Introduction #
Product Tags Target allows you to apply promotions to products that have specific WooCommerce tags.
Unlike Categories, which are often used to organize products, Tags are typically used for marketing, merchandising, and campaign management.
This targeting method is ideal when:
- Running seasonal promotions
- Creating featured product campaigns
- Promoting clearance products
- Managing temporary collections
- Building marketing-driven promotions
Tags provide a flexible way to group products without changing your category structure.
How Product Tags Target Works #
Product Tags Target evaluates the tags assigned to each WooCommerce product.
When a product contains one of the selected tags, it becomes eligible for the promotion.
Ezhance follows this process:
- Select tags to include.
- Apply any exclusion rules.
- Build the final target list.
- Evaluate Eligibility Rules.
- Apply the promotion.
Only products matching the selected tags can receive the promotion.
Quick Example #
In this example, we will apply a promotion to all Featured products.
Promotion Type:
Simple Discount
Discount:
15%
Target:
Tag = Featured
Eligibility Rules:
None
Display:
Offer Card
Result:
All products tagged Featured receive the discount.
Configuring Product Tags Target #
Navigate to:
Ezhance → Promotion → Target Selection
Choose:
Product Tags
Then select one or more WooCommerce tags.

After saving the promotion, all products containing the selected tags become eligible.
Targeting A Single Tag #
The simplest setup is targeting one tag.
Example:
Tag:
- Featured
Result:
Every product assigned the Featured tag receives the promotion.
This is commonly used for:
- Featured products
- Best sellers
- Promotional campaigns
Targeting Multiple Tags #
You can target multiple tags within a single promotion.
Example:
Tags:
- Featured
- Summer
- Clearance
Result:
Products with any of the selected tags become eligible.

Products With Multiple Tags #
WooCommerce products can have multiple tags.
Example:
Product:
Premium Hoodie
Tags:
- Featured
- Winter
- Best Seller
Promotion Target:
- Featured
Result:
The product qualifies because it contains the Featured tag.
A product only needs one matching tag to become eligible.
Including Tags #
Include rules determine which tagged products receive the promotion.
Example:
Include:
- Featured
- Summer
Result:
Products containing either tag become eligible.
Excluding Products From Tagged Campaigns #
Products can still be excluded from tag-based promotions.
Example:
Include Tag:
- Featured
Exclude Product:
- Premium Hoodie
Result:
All Featured products receive the promotion except Premium Hoodie.
Product Tags And Eligibility Rules #
Tag targeting determines what products can receive the promotion.
Eligibility Rules determine whether the customer qualifies.
Example:
Target:
Tag = Featured
Eligibility Rule:
Cart Subtotal greater than $100
Result:
The promotion only applies when:
- The product contains the Featured tag
- The customer satisfies the cart condition
Both requirements must pass.

Categories vs Tags #
A common question is:
When should I use Categories and when should I use Tags?
Use Categories when:
- Organizing your catalog
- Creating permanent product groups
- Managing large collections
Examples:
- Hoodies
- Shoes
- Accessories
Use Tags when:
- Running marketing campaigns
- Creating temporary collections
- Highlighting products
Examples:

- Clearance
- Best Seller
In most stores, Categories define product structure while Tags support promotional campaigns.

Best Practices #
Use Tags For Marketing Campaigns #
Tags are ideal for temporary and promotional product groupings.
Keep Tags Consistent #
Use a clear tagging strategy throughout your store.
Avoid Tag Overload #
Too many tags can make promotion management difficult.
Combine With Eligibility Rules #
Use Customer, Cart, or Purchase History Conditions for more advanced targeting.
Common Mistakes #
Confusing Categories With Tags #
Categories organize products.
Tags label products.
Both serve different purposes.
Forgetting To Assign Tags #
Products must contain the selected tags to qualify.
Creating Too Many Similar Tags #
Maintaining hundreds of tags can become difficult.
Forgetting Product Exclusions #
Excluded products will never receive the promotion even if they contain a matching tag.
