Why Isn’t My Cart Discount Applying?

Introduction #

If your Cart Discount is not applying as expected, the issue is usually related to one of the following:

  • Eligibility Rules are failing
  • Minimum requirements have not been met
  • The promotion is inactive
  • Schedule dates are restricting the promotion
  • Customer conditions are not satisfied
  • Purchase History conditions are not satisfied
  • Another promotion is taking priority

This guide will help you identify the most common causes and resolve them quickly.

How Cart Discounts Work #

Unlike product discounts, Cart Discounts do not target specific products.

Instead, Cart Discounts evaluate the cart, customer, and store conditions before applying a discount to the entire cart.

Before a Cart Discount can apply, all of the following must be true:

✓ Promotion is Active

✓ Schedule is valid

✓ Eligibility Rules pass

✓ Usage limits have not been reached

✓ Promotion priority allows the discount

If any requirement fails, the Cart Discount will not apply.

Quick Checklist #

Before continuing, verify:

  • Promotion status is Active
  • Cart meets all eligibility requirements
  • Customer meets all customer conditions
  • Purchase History conditions pass
  • Schedule dates are valid
  • Usage limits have not been reached
  • No higher-priority promotion is overriding the discount

Cause 1: Promotion Is Not Active #

Problem:

The Cart Discount promotion is inactive, disabled, or saved as a draft.

Solution:

Verify that the promotion status is set to Active.

Result:

Active promotions become eligible for evaluation.

Cause 2: Cart Subtotal Requirement Is Not Met #

Cart Discounts are commonly based on minimum spend requirements.

Problem:

The customer has not reached the required cart subtotal.

Cart Subtotal greater than or equal to $100

Result:

The Cart Discount does not apply.
