The Exclude Sale Items target rule removes products with an active WooCommerce sale price from the eligible product set. This prevents discount stacking on already-reduced items and protects your margins on clearance products. Requires Ezhance Pro.
What Counts as a Sale Item?
A product is considered on sale when WooCommerce shows an active sale price — meaning the product has both a regular price and a sale price set, and the sale price is currently active.
How It Works
- Ezhance builds the initial target list from include rules
- Products with an active WooCommerce sale price are identified
- Those products are removed from the target list
- The final eligible list is used for discount calculation
Configuration
In the promotion editor, go to the Target Selection tab. Add a target rule and select Exclude Sale Items. This works as an exclusion rule — it removes sale-priced products from whatever your include rules have selected.
Common Combinations
- Category + Exclude Sale Items — Discount all products in a category, but skip any that are already on sale
- Storewide sale + Exclude Sale Items — Apply a promotion to all products except those already reduced
Use Cases
- Running a storewide percentage-off promotion while protecting clearance pricing
- Category sales where some items are already individually marked down
- Bulk discount campaigns where you don't want to stack on sale prices
Common Mistakes
- Forgetting products are on sale — If a product has a WooCommerce sale price set, it will be excluded even if you didn't intend it to be.
- Testing only with discounted products — Test with both full-price and sale-priced products to verify behavior.
- Confusing with scheduled sale prices — Products with future-scheduled sale prices are not excluded until the sale price becomes active.
