Introduction #
Cart Discounts allow you to apply discounts to the entire shopping cart when customers meet specific requirements.
Unlike Simple Discounts, which reduce the price of targeted products, Cart Discounts are applied to the cart subtotal after products have been added to the cart.
Cart Discounts are ideal for:
- Spend and Save promotions
- Storewide sales
- Holiday campaigns
- VIP customer discounts
- Free shipping threshold campaigns
Quick Example #
In this example, we will create a promotion that gives customers $10 off their order when they spend more than $100.
- Promotion Type: Cart Discount
- Discount: Fixed Cart Discount ($10)
- Target: Entire Cart
- Eligibility Rules: Subtotal greater than $100
- Display: Cart Offer Display
Result:
Customers automatically receive a $10 discount when their cart subtotal exceeds $100.
How Cart Discounts Work #
When a customer adds products to their cart, Ezhance evaluates the configured eligibility rules.
If all rules pass, the configured discount is applied to the cart total.
Cart Discounts affect the order total rather than individual product prices.
This makes them ideal for promotions such as:
- Spend $100, Save $10
- Spend $200, Save 15%
- VIP Customer Discount
- Weekend Sale
Step 1: Create a Promotion #
Navigate to:
Ezhance → Promotions
Click Create Promotion.

Step 2: Select Cart Discount #
In the Promotion Type section, select:
Cart Discount
This tells Ezhance that the discount should be applied to the cart total.

Step 3: Configure the Discount #
Configure the cart discount settings.
Coupon Code #
Enter a unique coupon code for the promotion.
This coupon code is displayed to customers at checkout and is automatically applied when the promotion becomes eligible.
Example coupon codes:
- SAVE10
- SUMMER15
- WELCOME20
- FREESHIP
The coupon code must be unique and should not conflict with existing WooCommerce coupons.
Discount Type #
Choose how the discount should be calculated.
Percentage Discount #
Reduces the cart total by a percentage.
Examples:
- 10% Off
- 15% Off
- 20% Off
Fixed Cart Discount #
Reduces the cart total by a fixed amount.
Examples:
- $10 Off
- $25 Off
- $50 Off

How Cart Discounts Work #
Unlike product discounts, Cart Discounts generate a coupon-based discount that is applied to the customer’s cart.
When all eligibility rules pass:
- Ezhance validates the promotion.
- The configured coupon code becomes available.
- The coupon discount is applied to the cart.
- Customers see the discount in the cart and checkout totals.
This approach provides a familiar WooCommerce checkout experience while allowing Ezhance to control promotion eligibility.
Step 4: Configure Eligibility Rules #
Cart Discounts usually rely on eligibility rules.
Popular examples include:
Subtotal Conditions #

Step 5: Configure Display Components #
Display Components help customers understand how to qualify for the discount.

- Progress Message Card
- Countdown Timer
- Savings Message

Step 6: Configure Schedule Settings #
Optionally configure:
- Start Date
- End Date
- Promotion Priority
- Usage Limits
Examples:
- Weekend Sale
- Flash Sale
- Black Friday Promotion

Step 7: Save the Promotion #
Click Save Promotion.
Ezhance will begin evaluating carts and automatically applying the discount when customers qualify.

Customers can immediately see:
- Discount Amount
